A person cruising around on Calgary streets with an iPod’s white ear-buds shoved firmly in their ears is a common sight.

It’s partly because of the iPod’s growing popularity that last year, three local podcasting aficionados created a venue for aspiring podcasters and passionate podcatchers - the people who listen to podcasts - to congregate.

“I don’t always have a lot of time to read - an audio format is a lot more digestible and of interest to me,” says Doug Nouwen, 29, who formed podCALGARY.org along with Sean Austin-Joyner, 30, and Daryl “Cognito” Pamplin, 41.

“Podcasting is on demand - I can listen to what I want, when I want to,” says Nouwen, adding this form of media caters to his busy lifestyle. He says he downloads his podcasts and listens to them from his car stereo while driving to and from work.
