Zune Supports 1-Click

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

If this was an interview Daryl would clearly be leading with his questions. However I know that his time is being rampantly consumed touching his new iPod and that he would loathe the idea of soiling his finger prints on a Zune.

Daryl – thanks for the question.

Yes, the Zune now has podcatching support thanks to the latest firmware update for the device. There are even a few video podcasts featured on the Zune site including Ask A Ninja, WallStrip and the Nightly News with Brian Williams. But if your looking for video news on your Zune I’d recommend the Global News Hour with Gord Gillies and Nirmala Naidoo.

But how easy is it to get a podcast on to a Zune? Very!

Thankfully the Zune team saw the merit in the one click innovation that was developed for iTunes. For those of you who are not familiar with this – a “one click” is a string of code that distills the process of subscribing to a podcast into a single mouse click. This beats having to explain what RSS is to those that don’t already know.

So how do you create a one click for Zune’s? Very!

Here is the composition and an example from Zune Insider:
Create your unique link URL using this format: zune://subscribe/?PodcastTitle=PodcastRSSFeedURL

Here is a working example: zune://subscribe/?wallstrip=http://feeds.feedburner.com/wallstrip

But what Web 2.0 service would be complete without an unofficial chicklet?

Rob Walch of Podcast411 answered the call and created one himself:

So there you have it – the Zune now supports podcasting and now podcasters can support the Zune!
